Diagnosing Periodic Limb Movement Disorder
To diagnose this limb movement disorder, a sleep study is carried out, also known as a polysomnography test. This test is performed at night in the laboratory itself while the person is asleep.
During sleep, what this test record is the brain waves of the person, the oxygen levels, the heart rate, and the blood pressure. The test is performed by a sleep technologist who ties sensors on the person’s chest, scalp, legs, and arms to record the waves’ measurements.
Mostly the doctors come up with the cause of iron deficiency or anemia or some neurodevelopmental disorders. Doctors also take samples of urine and blood for observation.
